The 12th (2014)

The 2014 China Leaders in Development Executive Program (New Urbanization and Public Management) was offered from August 18 to September 22 to 25 participants from four provinces (or autonomous regions or municipalities) and 13 central government units. Among the participants, six were provincial and ministerial-level cadres. Li Zhiyong, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Working Committee of the Central Government, served as class monitor.

The program consisted of two phases: participants receiving training at Tsinghua University, and going to the United States for field investigation and studying at Harvard University. The modular program focused on new urbanization and urban-rural integration, covering development and urbanization in China, basis for urban governance, urban planning, people-centered urbanization, finance and infrastructure, urban services, new public management and governance, crisis management, etc. During their stay in the United States, the participants visited the Department of State, the Congress, the International Monetary Fund, the Cohen Group, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Grand Rapids, and exchanged opinions with relevant officials, scholars and entrepreneurs to build mutual understanding. During their visit to the United States, Christine Lagarde, the head of the International Monetary Fund met with the participants.
