China Development Research Foundation held the 2nd Academic Luncheon after the Lunar New Year

The 2nd academic luncheon of 2017 was held by China Development Research Foundation on Feb. 17. Firstly, the Deputy Secretary-General Xiao Qingwen addressed the speech of “Academic arena of DRC”. After that the Vice-Chairman of the Board, Liu Shijin shared his insights on relevant researches. Lastly, Secretary-General Lu Mai concluded the luncheon.


The Deputy Secretary-General Xiao Qingwen summarized different ways and methods in policy research as “schools of the martial arts”, and encouraged the fellows of the Foundation to start from empirical research, accumulate experience and seek breakthroughs in policy research.


The Vice-Chairman of the Board, Liu Shijin categorized the research into academic research and policy research, of which foundation lies in solid theoretical study. Thus he suggested young scholars in the Foundation on how to strengthen their research capacities as following.


Firstly, read more masterpieces that has theoretical depth and inspiring ideas. Secondly, develop personal interests in reading by asking questions, in order to improve the analytical thinking to solve problems. Thirdly, establish and polishthe independent thinking, which would guide their research and protect them from following others blindly. Fourthly, pay attention to data and situational analysis to find the pattern. Fifthly, propose constructive and manageable solutions in policy researches. Last but not least, he asked everyone to start from basic language skills practice, to enhance from “Coherency”, ”Accuracy”, ”Conciseness” to “Delicacy”.


At the end of the luncheon, Secretary-General Lu Mai asked all participants to start reading materials related to their practical work. He also laid down his expectation to all Foundation staff to advance their research capacity through asking questions and analyzing in academic thinking.
