Lu Mai Introduces Nutrition Packages Project Evaluation Results at NHFPC Conference

On November 30, 2016, CDRF Secretary General Lu Mai attended the conference on training and work summary for key child health service projects and the promotion of the pilot project on the treatment of birth defects. The conference was organized by the Department of Maternal and Child Health of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), and attended by more than 120 experts and project participants from health and family planning departments across the country.


In his report titled Child Nutrition Interventions in Poor Areas Lay Foundation for “One Health” Strategy, Lu Mai gave an overview to the evaluation on the nutrition improvement project for children in poor areas. He affirmed the significance and the implementation effects of the project, warned against the problems and risks that might arise when extending the pilot project to other regions, and put forward policy proposals on how to respond to risks and ensure the sustainable development of the project.


Entrusted by the Department of Maternal and Child Health of the NHFPC, CDRF conducted third-party evaluation on the nutrition improvement project for children in poor areas in 2016. The evaluation was based on 21 questionnaires at provincial level, 308 at county level, and 43,867 at village level, as well as field investigations on 4,998 rural families in 120 villages of 21 counties of seven provinces, seminars with relevant government departments at provincial, county and township levels, and investigations on nutrition package producers.
