ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Barcena Visited CDRF

Ms. Alicia Barcena, Executive Secretary of UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), paid a visit to China Development Research Foundation (CDRF) on October 16th, 2012.

Mr. Lu, Mai, Secretary General of CDRF, gave Ms. Barcena introductions on CDRF, China Development Forum and CDRF’s research projects. Ms. Barcena spoke highly of the results of CDRF’s social policy studies, convinced that there was a large scope of cooperation for the two sides in this field. She also believed that with the deepening Sino-Latin trade cooperation, China and Latin America should further strengthen their mutual understanding. In the mean time, Latin America’s past experience in social integration, child development, middle-income trap and other issues might have relevance for China, and ECLAC was more than willing to share them with CDRF.

Ms. Barcena extended her gratitude to CDRF for the Chinese special issue of CEPAL Review (to be published). This issue contained fifteen articles published on CEPAL Review from 2000 to 2011, and they were selected based on three criteria—first, to give analyses on the economic and trade relations between China and Latin America and the Caribbean; second, to present Chinese readers articles on Chinese economic and social development from the perspective of Latin American and Caribbean; third, to give Chinese academia and the policy-makers an overall idea of CEPAL Review. Ms. Barcena hoped that the special issue could contribute to promoting academic communication and policy-making in economic and social development among China, Latin America and the Caribbean.
