CDRF Sets up the Center for Child Development (CCD)

CDRF announced to set up the Center for Child Development (CCD) on October 18th, 2012.

CDRF has been dedicated to policy research for poverty alleviation and social equality. In consideration of the fact that child development plays a fundamental and strategic role in poverty alleviation, CCD intends to promote child development research and policies through pilots, studies, evaluation and advocacy. The center will focus on crucial issues that influence Chinese children, especially disadvantaged children and children in poverty, as well as problems regarding poverty, inequity and unequal opportunities. It stays committed to exploring policy plans to solve these problems.

For the sake of policy beneficiaries, CCD will work with governments at different levels and conduct policy experiments to provide governments and the society with effective and duplicable models of child development. The Center, in accordance with the principle of "small institution with wide network", will also cooperate with the World Bank, UNICEF, Harvard University, University of Chicago, Peking University and other prestigious research institutions to carry out inter-disciplinary and cross-boarder comparative researches. Such efforts will produce evidence-based policy recommendations for government decision-making, and enrich theoretical researches in this area. Currently, the Center has managed to invite Nobel Prize winner,  Professor Amartya Sen as senior advisors to facilitate CDRF's future researches.

CCD is centered on:

1) design, implementation, evaluation and exploration of policy plans to eliminate the problem of unequal opportunities in child development,

2) establishment of a platform for international communication, research collaboration and knowledge sharing in this area,

3) promotion of best policy practices.
