Exchange on Baseline Study Results of Targeted Poverty Alleviation Program for Industrial Chain

On January 25, 2019, the delegation led by Wang Hui, Director of External Affairs of Unilever (China) visited CDRF and exchanged views on baseline study results of targeted poverty alleviation program for industrial chain and plan for future assessment.

In 2016, Unilever officially started its targeted support to Meitan County, Zunyi City. It has teamed up with its suppliers to help local tea companies and tea growers to steadily lift poverty and increase income sustainably by varied ways such as reinforcing standard certification, developing new products, establishing brand cooperation, extending industrial chain, providing technical training, and expanding market.

Entrusted by Unilever, the Research Dept 3 of the CDRF carried out a three-year evaluation of this industrial chain model, and performed baseline study in 2018. After two field investigations, the research team comprehensively reviewed the local economic and social development environment, development of the tea industry, and models and practices of industrial poverty alleviation of Unilever. On this basis, the research team systematically sorted out the relevant industry support policies of the state, Guizhou Province, and Zunyi City, summed up the development experience of relevant models at home and abroad, and put forward related policy suggestions such as enhancing the relevance of poverty alleviation, beefing up technological innovation and talent training, as well as fostering the integration of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries.

After the reporting of the results, both sides discussed research results, priorities of future research, and other issues.
