The first meeting of the fourth Academic Committee of China Development Research Foundation was held at China Development Research Foundation on May 12, 2017. This meeting clarified several basic principles of the academic committee including its position, functions and working plans. Committee members in the meeting further discussed about "China's long-term development issues and the foundation’s future development”. Comments and suggestions were given about the next phase of the foundation’s research projects.

Chairman Li Wei introduced the background of establishing the fourth Academic Committee. Li thanked committee members on behalf of the new board for their great efforts on China Development Research Foundation over the years and set expectations for how the academic committee would work. Members in the academic committee were expected to lend support to both the research projects within the foundation and the Development Research Center of the State Council’s work. Vice Chairman Lu Mai presented the foundation’s work in recent years covering aspects of communication, training, policy research, social experiment and policy evaluation, expansion of network construction and dissemination of findings, organizational structure and financial status, etc.

Members in the academic committee fully affirmed the achievements made and suggested the foundation start doing research with a long-term perspective; suggesting topics of aging population, rural development, anti-poverty, etc.

Director Wang Mengkui emphasized that the academic committee would play a consulting role for research as a non-executive agency of the foundation under the leadership of the new council. 1-2 meetings would be held each year to advise the foundation’s annual research. Small work meetings could be held in a flexible way based on the needs of the foundation’s research projects and the expertise of members in the academic committee.
