The 39th Luncheon on Hot Issues in Development Was Successfully Held

The 39th Luncheon on Hot Issues in Development was successfully held on May 5. This event was hosted by China Development Research Foundation and sponsored by China International Capital Corporation Ltd.

Liu Yuanli, the professor of School of Public Health at Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, delivered a speech entitled “A Global Perspective of Healthcare in China.” Lu Mai, the Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of China Development Research Foundation, hosted the luncheon speech. More than 50 guests from central government departments, renowned universities and corporations attended the luncheon.

Professor Liu pointed out four global health trends in his speech including increasing contribution of healthcare to economic development, increasing cooperation in healthcare systems, diversifying healthcare services and coordination of healthcare resources. Liu said that economic development and public health development is nonlinear in the history of China. The key factor of the difference in the achievement made in healthcare at a very low level of economic development in the first 30 years of the PRC and the slow development in healthcare during next 30 years of economic reform is adherence to prevention principles. Integrating healthcare services groups is the core of healthcare reform at this point of time in China so that disease prevention and deepening healthcare reform could be linked tightly, Liu added.
