The 14th U.S.-China Symposium on Building the Financial System of the 21st Century Held Successfully

The 14th annual U.S.-China Symposium on Building the Financial System of the 21st Century was held in Armonk, New York on May 17-19. This event was co-hosted by China Development Research Foundation and Harvard Law School. More than 130 senior financial experts from China and the United States discussed topics including impact of leadership transitions on Sino-US economic relations, next steps in capital market liberalization and financial (de)regulation in China and the U.S., challenges and opportunities of FinTech (and RegTech) in the U.S. and China, the sources for capital and investment, and market access.


This annual symposium held alternately between China and the United States is an important platform for direct communication between the financial services of both countries. Financial decision-makers, academics and practitioners in the two countries widely participated in this symposium. Keynote speakers included the Acting Consul General of the PRC in New York Cheng Lei, the Deputy Administrator of State Administration of Foreign Exchange Fang Shangpu, the Vice Chairman of Central Huijin Investment Co., Ltd. Li Jiange, the CEO of North America for Citigroup Inc Bill Mills, the Acting Deputy Secretary of United States Department of the Treasury Andrew Baukol. The United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross delivered a video address.
