The Expert Seminar on the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes Kicks Off

In order to deeply understand and explore the promotion and challenges of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes in relevant policies of all countries, and provide a reference for the formulation of relevant legislations and policies in China, remove the adverse impact of the promotion of breast-milk substitutes on breastfeeding, improve the nutritional status of children in China, the CDRF held the Expert Seminar on the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes on the afternoon of April 17, 2019.



Leaders and experts from the Department of Food Safety Standards, Risk Surveillance and Assessment of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA), the China Consumers Association (CCA), the China Advertising Association (CAA), the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC), the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and the Capital Institute of Pediatrics (CIP) as well as expert representatives from international organizations like the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children Inc., and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation participated in this seminar. Fang Jin, Deputy Secretary General of the CDRF, presided over this seminar and delivered a speech. Zhao Chen, Deputy Director of the Child Development Center, and Wang Xiaobei and Zhang Ruoqi of the research team on the Breastfeeding Improvement Initiative attended this seminar.



At this seminar, Mr. David Clark from the New York Headquarters, the UNICEF, explained the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and relevant resolutions of the World Health Assembly (WHA) and introduced the practice of all countries in promoting relevant policies.



Later, Ms. Shelly Sundberg from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation talked about the global cooperation and challenges in promoting the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and international experience in the management of breast-milk substitutes.
