On the occasion of the 29th "China Breastfeeding Day", the CDRF held the Fourth Session of "China Development Media Salon" on May 14. The theme of the salon was to "Improve the Breastfeeding Rate in China: Improve the Breastfeeding Environment through Policies".

Four experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC), the China Advertising Association (CAA), the Capital Institute of Pediatrics (CIP), and Peking University International Hospital were invited to explain breastfeeding knowledge. Mainstream media in China were invited. Du Zhixin, the Director of the Child Development Center, the CDRF, delivered the opening speech. Wang Xiaobei, Zhang Ruoqi, and Li Jia of the Breastfeeding Improvement Initiative attended the salon.

Chief Nurse Chen Lanlan from the Neonatal Department, Peking University International Hospital, explained why medical institutions advocate breastfeeding, how to breastfeed, and how medical institutions should promote breastfeeding.

A researcher from the CCDC elaborated on the relationship between breastfeeding and maternal and infant health and analyzed the composition of human milk to help guests better perceive the differences between human milk and animal milk.

A member from the legal committee of the CAA interpreted the clauses in the Advertising Law of the People's Republic of China and relevant laws, regulations, and policies restricting the marketing of breast-milk substitutes, and applied the Advertising Law (and other laws and regulations) to examples of violations.

Associate Researcher Zhang Shuyi from the CIP talked about the principles of protecting breastfeeding and avoiding conflicts of interests, introduced the purpose, scope, and contents of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and relevant resolutions of the World Health Assembly (WHA) and the implementation in all countries, and pointed out the necessity of converting the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and the resolutions into laws and regulations of China and the shortcomings in implementation and violations in China.
