Breastfeeding Promotion Forum Is Held

On August 1, 2019, at the time of the annual World Breastfeeding Week, the CDRF held the Breastfeeding Promotion Forum in Beijing, with the theme "Empower Parents to Enable Breastfeeding". Participants, including policy advocates at home and abroad, representatives of international organizations, experts in related fields, celebrities and amateur families, called on families and the whole society to give mothers greater support to increase the rate of breastfeeding in China.

Participants pointed out that breastfeeding in China faced many constraints on the legal and societal levels. They took Guangzhou, the first city that initiated a legislative process to protect breastfeeding, as an example, and suggested that the country and other regions strengthen policies and legislation to restrict promotion and advertising of breastmilk substitutes and break down the main barriers to the improvement of breastfeeding rates in China.

Supporting units of this forum include UNICEF, World Health Organization, UN Women, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Save the Children International.
