First Pilot Program of Breastfeeding Improvement Initiative Is Implemented in Nanning

On September 2, CDRF officially launched the pilot program of "Breastfeeding Improvement Initiative" in Nannning. Fang Jin, Secretary General of the Foundation attended the launch ceremony and delivered a speech. Cao Bin, former Deputy Inspector of Department of Maternal and Child Health of National Health Commission, Liang Yuan, Inspector of Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ding Bing, Deputy Director of Management Committee of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Development Fund of Chinese Red Cross Foundation delivered speeches at the ceremony. Professor Zhao Gengli, Leader of expert group of the pilot program as well as former Director of Women's and Children's Health Center of Peking University made a detailed introduction to the pilot program.

The pilot program of "Breastfeeding Improvement Initiative" in Nanning aimed at promoting the atmosphere of breastfeeding in Nanning and providing evidence for the formulation and improvement of relevant policies of the country through relevant measures taken by hospitals and health care institutions in communities to promote breastfeeding. The pilot program was supported by Health Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Nanning Health Committee and Guangxi Association for Improving Birth Outcome and Child Development and jointly organized and implemented by CDRF and Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Development Fund of Chinese Red Cross Foundation and will be implemented in four large hospitals and 12 health care service institutions in communities in Nanning.

After the launch ceremony, the program organizers provided a class for breastfeeding consultation and guidance skill for two and half days, which provided guidance for breastfeeding consultation skill for more than 100 doctors and nurses of local communities and hospitals and made a rudimentary selection of 32 breastfeeding counselors by testing.

In addition, the Foundation commissioned School of Public Health of Peking University to conduct a third-party evaluation for the pilot program. The evaluation group will conduct baseline research for the pilot program at the end of September.
