Lu Mai Visiting Gansu and Qinghai for Field Surveys on CDRF Programs on Children


2020 marks the fifth anniversary of CDRF’s program “China REACH” in Huachi County, Gansu. According to experts’ assessment, the intervention of home visits in Huachi significantly improved children’s development and the pilot program made noticeable achievements. In order to summarize experience of the program and keep updated on basic information of the beneficiaries’ family, from May 18 to 22, a delegation headed by CDRF Vice Chairman Lu Mai visited Qingyang City and Huachi County in Gansu for field surveys.


Lu and the delegation members visited some rural families with infants and children in the county to survey beneficiaries’ family, and met with Yun Jianmin, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Gansu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Qingyang Municipal Committee. On the afternoon of May 21, a survey seminar on “China REACH” was held in Huachi County to discuss how to promote the early child development program in the county for the next step.



Peng Ting, Analyst with General Office of Department of Population Surveillance and Family Development, National Health Commission (NHC), Yang Yanmiao, an official with General Office of the Department, Professor Shi Jiannong with Institute of Psychology, CAS, Professor Yu Dongchuan with Southeast University, and Ph.D Yang Yuankui with Research Center for Learning Science, Southeast University joined the survey. Other participants included Director Hu Ziqiang of CDRF Public Relations Dept, Executive Director Zhao Chen of Child Development Center and related CDRF colleagues.



From May 23 to 31, the delegation led by Lu Mai further visited Ledu District, Haidong City, Qinghai for a field survey on the “One Village One Preschool” program. Last year was the tenth anniversary of the program in Ledu. During the survey, the delegation visited several kindergartens to learn about children’s nutrition, health and family nurturing in details and observe the family and social environment of the rural children.
