The China Development Forum 2020 is to be held from 11 to 13 November

The China Development Forum (CDF) 2020 will be held both online and offline from 11 to 13 November 2020. The theme of this year’s annual meeting is ‘Economic Recovery and International Cooperation in a Post-Pandemic Era’.

Hosted by the Development Research Centre of the State Council (DRC) and organised by the China Development Research Foundation (CDRF), the CDF adheres to a "small-scale, high-level" tradition and serves as an important dialogue platform for senior officials of the Chinese government, global business leaders, international organisations, as well as Chinese and overseas scholars. Since its establishment in 2000, the forum has made positive contributions to promoting development policy exchanges and international cooperation between China and the international community.

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, in February 2020, the CDF Secretariat announced the postponement of the annual meeting. Under the circumstances of the spreading pandemic, the pressured world economy, and the changing international political situation, the Secretariat has remained its commitment to “Engaging with the World for Common Prosperity”. It brought its platform role into full play by organising a series of virtual events with delegates from home and abroad on such themes as pandemic prevention and control, economic recovery, and enterprise development.

China has seen the normalisation of the pandemic prevention and control, and has witnessed a gradual yet orderly economic recovery. However, the world economy is still in a state of uncertainty due to the impact of the pandemic. In such context, themed as “Economic Recovery and International Cooperation in a Post-Pandemic Era”, this year’s annual meeting is aimed to promote all parties’ better understanding towards China's economic recovery and its long-term goals, to boost opening-up, and to amplify the voice of reason in supporting multilateralism and jointly promoting world economic recovery.

In the forthcoming forum, delegates will participate in the discussion around topics such as the framework of the 14th five-year plan and the 2035 vision, the “dual circulation” development pattern, the international cooperation against COVID-19, the building of a resilient financial system, and the cooperation on the global industrial and supply chains.

This year’s annual meeting will be chaired by Mr. MA Jiantang, Party Secretary of the DRC, and will be co-chaired by Ms. Virginia M. (Ginni) Rometty, the Executive Chairman of IBM. The delegates of this year’s gathering will include officials from relevant ministries including the National Development and Reform Commission, the People’s Bank of China, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Industry of Information Technology, business leaders from the Global 500 or industry-leading corporations, renowned international economists, and heads of international organisations such as the IMF and the Asian Development Bank.
