The Seventh International Conference on Poverty Reduction and Child Development Held in Beijing

On July 24, 2021, the Seventh International Conference on Poverty Reduction and Child Development took place in Beijing, titled Investing in Children for Sustainable Prosperity. The conference was supervised by the Development Research Center of the State Council and hosted by the China Development Research Foundation.



The conference discussed issues about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), child development, the construction of a public service and policy system for children, and innovation in practices of child development, aiming at sharing China's experience in poverty eradication and child development with the international community, learning from and summarizing the background of each country, and promoting international cooperation in child development and poverty reduction.


Li Bin, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the conference and gave a keynote speech. Ma Jiantang, Party Secretary of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC); Li Wei, Director of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the National Committee of the CPPCC and Chairman of the CDRF; and Liu Zhenmin, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, delivered speeches at the conference. Sun Yao, Member of the Party Group and China's Vice Minister of Education; Jiang Jiang, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Hangchuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia; Fazilatun Nessa Indira, Minister of State for Women's and Children's Affairs of Bangladesh; and Kongsy Sengmany, Vice Minister of Education and Sports of Lao PDR, delivered keynote speeches.



The conference brought around 300 representatives from governmental entities, research institutions, international organizations, and NGOs. Ou Qingping, deputy director of the National Committee of Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC, attended the conference. Guo Yan, director of the Ethnic Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education; Zhao Changwen, director of the Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD); He Dan, director of the China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC); Zhao Wenhua, chief expert in nutriology of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); and representatives of local governments in Gansu, Guizhou, Xinjiang, and Hebei participated in the conference.
