The "Belt and Road" International Conference on TVET held

From November 19 to 20, the 2021 The "Belt and Road" International Conference on TVET, themed "Openness, Cooperation and Mutual Benefits -- Jointly building a global community of skills for mankind", was held in Beijing and Shenzhen online and offline.

More than 800 leading guests, experts and scholars from government departments, institutions, industries and enterprises from 36 countries and regions gathered online to discuss the mission and responsibility of vocational education in serving the Belt and Road Initiative and building a community with a shared future for mankind, and build a broad consensus. The conference released an overview of TVET in Countries along the Belt and Road and a Report on the Development of TVET along the Belt and Road.

Lu Xin, president of China Vocational and Technical Education Association and former vice minister of The Ministry of Education attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Fang Jun, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, Qin Changwei, Secretary-General of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, Yue Yanghua, director of the Center for Contemporary World Studies under the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Fang Jin, Secretary-general of the China Development Research Foundation, Long Yuxiang, Executive Chairman of China International Cultural Communication Center, Wu Yanling, second-level inspector of Guangdong Education Department, Yang Xinbin, Party Secretary of Shenzhen Polytechnic, John Xia, Director of UNESCO's China Office, Antti Rantakokko, Chairman of the Finnish Mayors' Association and others delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Liu Jiantong, executive vice president and secretary general of China Vocational and technical Education Association.

The conference put forward five proposals: first, to deepen the theoretical innovation of vocational education and strengthen the construction of think tanks; Second, innovate the cooperation mode of vocational education and deepen technical cooperation; Third, build a shared platform for vocational education to promote skill transformation; Fourth, promote equitable access to vocational education and help poverty reduction with skills; Fifth, enhance the contribution of vocational education, skills-driven growth. The meeting pointed out that the belt and Road initiative should be rooted in the fertile soil of international cooperation, adhere to the concept of openness, cooperation and win-win, and contribute to the sustainable development of mankind, economic growth and cooperation of countries and regions along the Belt and Road through the construction of a human skills community.

At the meeting, China Development Research Foundation held a special session titled For the Future: Symposium on Vocational Education Development “Promoting High-Quality Development of Modern Vocational Education”, and launched the School-enterprise cooperation action plan with a number of well-known enterprises. The plan aims to build a cooperation platform for vocational colleges and enterprises, explore the integrated development mode of vocational education, and enhance the role of enterprises in the development of vocational education.
