Li Wei visits Nujiang

July 24 to 25, 2022, Li Wei, the member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, the director of the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment, the vice chairman of the China Economic and Social Council (CESC), and chairman of China Development Research Foundation (CDRF) led a CESC group to Nujian, Yunan. The visit’s purpose is to learn the status of consolidation of the achievements of poverty alleviation and how it links with the rural revitalisation.



Chang Rongjun, the member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, the vice director of the Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, and the vice chairman of the CESC;Du Ying, a member of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, the deputy director of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, the vice chairman of the China Centre for International Economic Exchange (CCIEE); Xu Fushun, a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, a member of the CESC; Jia Nan, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, the executive member of the CESC; Lan Yunsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, the member of the CESC; and Yu Jiantuo, the Deputy Secretary General of the China Development Research Foundation and others participated in the visit.


Li Xuelin, the vice chairman of the Provincial-level CPPCC Committee; Na Yunde, the secretary of the Nujiang Committee of the CPC; Li Wenhui, the vice secretary of Nujiang Committee of the CPC, the governor of Nujiang; Zhang Xiaoming, the vice secretary of the Nujiang Committee of the CPC; Li Kunzhen, the vice chairman of the Nujiang CPPCC Committee and others also took part in the event.


Nujiang, Yunnan Province was afflicted by deep poverty. It is also one of the main battlefields in Yunnan’s fight against poverty, which saw victory in June 2020. The group went to Lushui Nujiang Poverty Reduction Exchange Centre, Nujiang Lisu music town, Daliandi community, Lanping County Tongdian town Yi Men Qing Preschool, Fenghua Village Huangmu Group, urban relocation site, and other related areas. The group studied Nujiang’s consolidation and expansion of poverty alleviation achievements, integrated development of culture and tourism, follow-up support for poverty alleviation and relocation in barren areas, and industrial project construction.



In early 2019, the CDRF launched "One Village One Preschool" in Nujiang. The project has established 35 preschools in Lushui City, Fugong County, Gongshan County and Lanping County in Nujiang, added 54 preschool education centres by using idle school buildings and activity rooms for Party members, and added 133 preschool classes to the existing village-level preschools. There are more than 6,000 children in the preschools, and nearly 300 volunteer teachers have been recruited. In 2020, the gross enrollment rate of preschool students in Nujiang Prefecture reached 89.97 percent, 23.91 percent higher than that in 2018. By the end of 2020, the local government had taken over the responsibility of subsidising volunteer teachers. The foundation continued to support the project's local preschool education by improving its quality.
