China-Italy Philanthropy Forum holds High-Level Workshop in Beijing
On 20 October 2023 the China-Italy Philanthropy Forum (CIPF) held a
High-Level Workshop on “Cross-cultural collaboration in people-centred
philanthropy”, hosted by the National School of Development (NSD) of Peking
University.
This Workshop marked the first encounter in China between European and
Chinese families who are leaders in philanthropy in their respective
geographies. As remarked by Romano Prodi, former President of the European
Commission and Honorary Co-Chairman of the CIPF, the purpose of this Workshop
was to allow leaders in philanthropy to inspire each other through dialogue and
the sharing of practices, and to explore innovative forms of collaborative
cross-cultural charity work.
In his keynote remarks Lu Mai, former Vice Chairman of the China Development
Research Foundation (CDRF) and Honorary Co-Chairman of the CIPF, remarked that
the role of family foundations is especially important, as they can take upon
themselves the risks of innovation while sharing with society the benefits
coming from their innovative projects.
Dong Zhiyong, Vice President of Peking University and Dean of its School of
Economics, welcomed participants to the two sessions, dedicated to philanthropy
and family legacy and to philanthropy and education. Lei Xiaoyan, Secretary of
the Party Committee of the National School of Development at Peking University,
remarked that as one of the steering partners of the China-Italy Philanthropy
Forum, the NSD looks forward to working with all parties to fully cooperate and
promote philanthropy to new heights, contributing its own strength to a better
society and future.
The China-Italy Philanthropy Forum was established in March 2019 on the
occasion of President Xi Jinping's State visit to Italy. Its second term
(2022-2025) was launched in 2022 through the efforts of the three steering
partners: the TOChina Hub at the University of Turin, the China Development
Research Foundation (CDRF), and the National School of Development at Peking
University.
The China-Italy Philanthropy Forum aims to foster meaningful and sustainable
dialogue and outcome-oriented cooperation between key players from the
philanthropy sector of China, Italy and Europe, including family foundations,
corporate foundations, public foundations, and corporations committed to the
highest standards of corporate social responsibility.
