The concept of environmental, social and governance (ESG) was developed by the United Nations Global Compact and refers to the practice of considering environmental, social impact, and corporate governance performance in production, operation and investment decisions. During the past nine years since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, while vigorously promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and countries in the regions along the route, there are also problems such as large population, diverse cultures, diverse societies, complex interest demands and fragile ecological environment.

Entrusted by the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, CDRF conducts research on ESG risk management framework of "Belt and Road", and strives to build an ESG indicator system based on the existing research results, show the current situation and excellent practice cases in related fields of the "Belt and Road" countries, and explore and optimize the specific construction path of international development assistance risk management with Chinese characteristics.
