The 2007 China-US Symposium on Building the Financial System of the 21st Century, co-organized by the CDRF and Harvard Law School, was held in Half Moon Bay, California from June 23 to June 24, 2007. More than 120 experts, regulators and practitioners from the American and Chinese financial sectors attended the symposium.
Li Jian’ge, head of the Chinese delegation and Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, delivered the opening speech. Wu Xiaoling, Vice President of the People's Bank of China, and Clay Lorre, Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury, delivered dinner speeches. Those attending the symposium included representatives of financial regulatory authorities such as China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Securities Regulatory Commission and local governments, well-known Chinese financial institutions such as Bank of China, China Construction Bank, China International Capital Corporation Limited, China Asset Management, Shenzhou Fengcai Investment Management Co., Ltd. and academic institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Ministry of Finance, the Development Research Center of the State Council, Renmin University and Fudan University.
On the U.S. side, executives of Goldman Sachs International Group, Morgan Stanley, Blackstone and other companies attended the meeting. Attendees exchanged views on financial and capital market reforms in the two countries, China’s joint ventures, private equity, double surplus, market access and supervision, venture capital and other current hot issues in financial areas, especially those involving China and the U.S., to build mutual understanding and trust between Chinese and American financial circles.
