From June 5th to 7th, the 16th US-China Symposium on “Building the Financial System of the 21st century” was successfully held. The China-U.S. Symposium on “Building the Financial System of the 21st century” was co-hosted by CDRF and the Center for International Financial Systems at Harvard Law School, held in China and the US in turn every year. This year, the symposium was held in Washington, D.C. Chinese and American governments, academia, international organizations, and financial professionals from banking, securities, insurance and other fields attended this symposium.


The symposium, held in Washington, D.C., was attended by Wilbur Ross, Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce, Andrew Olmem, Deputy Assistant to the President for Economic Policy; Deputy Director of the National Economic Council; The White House, Heath Tarbert, Assistant Secretary for International Markets, U.S. Department of the Treasury, Jelena McWilliams, Chairman, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and other current U.S. officials.


Nick Lardy, Senior Fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics, Paul G. Mahoney, Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia, Gaypaud, Visiting Graduate Professor at George Washington University, Scowcroft of the Atlantic Council, and Robert Doner, Nonresident Senior Fellow of the Center for Strategy and Security, and other American scholars attended the meeting.


Yu Bin, Chief of Staff, Development Research Center (DRC) of the State Council of P.R. China, Liu Fushou, Chief Counsel, China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, Zhou Yanli, Former Vice Chairman, China Insurance Regulatory Commission, participated in the speech and discussions in the symposium.


LI Kexin, DCM and Minister, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United States of America delivered a speech and answered questions on the spot. During the three-day conference, a total of four panel discussions were held for all participants to participate in the discussion, covering key topics such as "China-US Relations and Cross-border Financial Services", "The Impact of the Rise of Public and Private Debt in China and the United States on Economic Growth in the Post-Quantitative Easing Era", "Non-bank Institutions and Financial Product Innovation in Financial Markets", "Capital Market Institutionalization and Retail Investment Opportunities" and other key topics.
