CDRF Releases "China Development Report 2013/14"

On 17th December, 2014, China Development Research Foundation (CDRF) held a release seminar for “China Development Report 2013/14” in Beijing. The main authors, Song Hongyuan from the Ministry of Agriculture, and Li Shi, from Beijing Normal University attended the seminar. Other participants were the authors of the concept papers, including Zhang Xiaoshan from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Ye Xingqing from Development Research Center of the State Council and Wang Sangui from Renmin University.

“China Development Report 2013/14: The Road for Building a Comprehensive Well-off Society in Rural China” focused on the “well-off society in rural area”, and was completed after two years’ multi-disciplinary study of rural China. In producing the report, CDRF organized a number of workshops and seminars attended by experts from various fields to render the report a solid academic base and broad angle of views. In the meantime, researchers from higher education institutions and government agencies as well as policy practitioners from relevant government departments were invited to provide 21 concept papers as supplements to the main report.

“China Development Report 2013/14” proposes systematic policy advices for building a well-off society in rural China by 2020 based on analyses of major issues in current rural development. The report first reviews the historical background of building a well-off society and its significance in the evolution of China’s modernization. After observing the changes in Chinese rural policies, the report put forward six key tasks and basic approaches in building a well-off society in rural China. The report then, from the viewpoint of urban-rural interaction and integrated development, makes thematic analyses and proposes policy suggestions in the following aspects: demographic changes, land system, agricultural production, rural income, social security, ecology, social governance, financial support and urban-rural integration.
