About the Program
"One Village One Preschool: Village Early Education Center"(OVOP) Program is a key social experiment project initiated by the CDRF in 2009. The OVOP program, in cooperation with local governments, utilizes vacant rural school buildings and other resources, and locally recruits preschool educators. Gradually, a village-level early childhood education and care popularization model was established. This model is characterized by distributed settings, accessible services, reasonable costs, and quality assurance. Moreover, relevant policies were promoted in Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai and other provinces. The OVOP program not only improves the local enrollment rate, but also reduces the burden on low-income rural families, promotes the cognitive and non-cognitive development of children, and establishes a high-quality local kindergarten teacher team. By September 2023, the OVOP program has been implemented in 33 counties in 13 provinces in China, benefiting more than 300,000 children in total. In July 2018, the OVOP program won WISE Awards for 2018, becoming the first Chinese program to win the award. The award was highly-recognized by international mainstream media as "the Nobel Prize in education". In October 2021, the OVOP program was honored as the Best Case in the "Global Best Practice in Poverty Reduction." In September 2023, the OVOP program was awarded the 12th "China Charity Award" by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
