Demonstration of Huachi County pilot project during The 5th International Conference on Poverty Reduction and Child Development was completed
On October 27-28, 2016, the 5th International Conference on Poverty Reduction and Child Development hosted by the China Development Research Foundation was held in Beijing. Over 300 delegates attended the conference and exchanged views on the fact that early childhood development is fundamental to eliminating poverty.
To help delegates fully understand the pilot project on early childhood development initiated by the CDRF and to promote exchanges between pilot counties, delegates were invited to visit Huachi County, Gansu Province. In August 2014, the CDRF and Huachi County joined hands to launch the Village Kindergarten Program and the Early Childhood Development Pilot Program. The former provides low-cost, high-quality pre-school education to 3-6 year olds and the latter provides parental guidance services and nutritional supplements to families with 6-36-month-old children, the first of its kind launched by the CDRF in China. Huachi County has become a model demonstration county for best practices in early childhood development interventions.
