China Development Report 2007: The Elimination of Poverty through Development

On September 25, 2007, CDRF published its book “China Development Report 2007- the Elimination of Poverty through Development”. This book addresses the theme of poverty. CDRF organized the Chinese renowned experts on poverty issue - Wang Xiaolu, Li Shi and Wang Sangui, and spent one and half years to accomplish it.

The 2007 China Development Report briefly describes the history and status quo of the poverty issue in China, introduces other countries’ experiences in poverty alleviation, analyses the characteristics of poverty in China today and the various reasons behind it, reviews and assesses various poverty alleviation policies in China and their effects, studies governmental practices in anti-poverty work, and puts forward multiple suggestions for policy makers based on data and analysis. Among these various suggestions, the ones regarding improvement of poverty line standard and the set-up of development poverty line attached great importance to the related departments.
