Drawing Lessons from History——Symposium on 1997 Asian Financial Crisis: 25 Years On was held
An International Symposium on 1997 Asian Financial Crisis: 25 Years On, hosted by the China Development Research Foundation, was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on August 19, 2022.
Li Wei, Chairman of the China Development Research Foundation, said in his speech that the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Reviewing the Asian financial crisis and promoting the deepening and sharing of development knowledge will provide reference and inspiration for dealing with the current global challenges. Dai Xianglong, former Governor of People's Bank of China; Lou Jiwei, the member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Takehiko Nakao, Chairman of Mizuho Research Institute and former President of the Asian Development Bank; Zhu Guangyao, Former Deputy Minister of Finance; Jusuf Wanandi, Senior Fellow and co-founder of the Indonesian Center for Strategic and International Studies; Zhu Min, Vice President, China Center for International Economic Exchanges; and Wang Yiming, Vice Chairman of China Centre for International Economic Exchanges, former Vice President of the Development Research Center of the State Council delivered the speech at the opening ceremony. On the one hand, they review the internal and external causes for the crisis, the main countermeasures and the crisis of affected countries, bringing the experiences and lessons of China's role in response to the crisis particularly. On the other hand, they also put forward some suggestions around the main risks of the current global economy and possible actions. Fang Jin, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Development Research Foundation, presided over the opening ceremony.
